Gay Project

Gay Rights Campaigner Commended

March 2020

The Gay Project warmly congratulates Pádraig Rice, on a successful two years as the Project Coordinator, in advance of his departure from that role. Mr Rice has played a pivotal part in developing and enhancing community resources and services for gay, bi, trans and queer men in Cork and the Munster region. Mr. Rice brought enthusiasm, energy and astute leadership during his time as Project Coordinator. Along with the dedicated staff, volunteers and Board in the Gay Project, he has worked tirelessly to develop sustainable community development projects to support and enhance the rights and wellbeing of GBTQ+ men in keeping with the social determinants of health and sustainable development goals. The Board takes this opportunity to wish Pádraig every success and to wish him and his fiancé, Aaron the very best in the future. Speaking of this the Board Chair Cllr. Colette Finn said

‘We were so happy to have recruited Padraig into this post, after the untimely death of our esteemed colleague and friend Dave Roche. He has been fundamental to the recovery of the Gay Project and the beginnings of a vibrant and safe space for GBTQ+ men in Cork. Homophobia has not gone away. We all need to continue to work to build a tolerant and pluralist society for all our people whether gay or straight’
